WHAT IS PAHT?
The Pelorus Area Health Trust (PAHT) tries to find local solutions to health and well being problems within the large, rural and isolated Pelorus Area.
We do this in a number of ways:
We do this in a number of ways:
PAHT provides grants and donations to local organisations to assist with services and projects that benefit the health and well being of our community. PAHT makes annual donations to :

Every year PAHT provides a Health Education Grant to recipients who would like to take a course that will improve their qualifications in the health and well being field. All courses that will upskill qualifications that allow the recipient to provide a service for local residents and communities are considered. (Application form here.) PAHT gives one-off funding or donations to small projects that benefit our Pelorus community. This can be anything from providing pool maintenance funding to schools to helping with funds to run exercise classes for the elderly. (Application form here.) PAHT also provides funds to buy defibrillators for the wider Pelorus area (Find them here.) |
Undertaking Community Initiatives is an exciting new development for PAHT. Expanding our presence on Main Road with the addition of the Community Lounge and larger charity shop has been an important enabling step towards this.
The Community Lounge is all about making connections in our community. From here we plan to run health courses, have pet therapy sessions, allow local groups to hold meetings or have coffee afternoons, bring people together for meals or activities, or just have anyone who wants to drop in for a cuppa and a chat feel welcome.
We have a health info hub in the lounge where you can find information on a range of health services available in our area. This is also where we make the hot soup that is delivered every week (along with a roll and sweet treat) to the homes of those in our community who need a little assistance and connection. More direct initiatives will be added in the future, but in the meantime, pop in and say hello.

PAHT lobbies on behalf of the community for the provision of better primary healthcare facilities for our Pelorus Area.
PAHT lobbies the Springlands Medical Centre to find solutions for GP services provision at the Havelock Medical Centre. Although PAHT has no say in the Medical Centre building (owned by HCA) or the provision of Havelock Medical Centre services (owned by Springlands Medical Centre), PAHT works with these 2 organisations, as well as the Marlborough PHO and Te Whatu Ora, to find solutions to primary healthcare provision issues.
